Karva was a highly devoted wife and loved her husband immensely. Seeing her love and dedication, she was bestowed with spiritual power. One day, her husband was attacked by a crocodile by the riverside. To save her husband's life, she asked Yama - The God of Death to send the crocodile to hell. On Yama's refusal, Karva threatened to curse him. Yama, afraid to be cursed by the spiritually blessed, Karva, sent the crocodile to hell. He also blessed her husband with a long and healthy life.
